Atari800Win Plus is an Atari 400/800/XL/XE/5200 emulator for Win32, based upon the Atari800 & Atari800Win sources. Rainbow Mac OS X Rainbow was one of the first emulators available for Macintosh. Atari800MacX is a Mac OS X port of Atari800, an Atari.
Emulators Online - Atari ST Emulation- -Gemulator 9Updated November 30 2008 by Darek MihockaRun classic Apple Macintosh, Atari ST, and Atari 8-bit software! When released in September 1992 at the Glendale Atari Fair in California, ' Gemulator' was the world's first Atari ST emulator for the PC. Written in almost nothing but 486 machine code, Gemulator 1.0 was capable of running Atari ST software at full 68000 speeds on Intel 486 based MS-DOS computers. Gemulator was upgraded in 1993 to add emulation of Apple Macintosh Plus computers running Mac System 6. This was followed in 1995 with releases to run on Microsoft Windows 3.1 and Windows 95.
In 1998 we added support for Windows 98 and NT 4.0, and spun off a sister product called 'Gemulator SoftMac' (or simply as ' SoftMac') which added the ability to emulate 32-bit color Mac models such as the Macintosh II and Macintosh Quadra. Those ROMs are not supported at this time due to differences in pin layout of those particular ROM chips used.Macintosh 512 and Macintosh Plus ROMs come as a 2-chip 28-pin set and are supported. 4-chip sets of Macintosh ROMs (Macintosh II and higher) require using SoftMac 2000 or later.
See the for a list of compatible Mac ROMs.Software RequirementsGemulator 2000 runs on all DirectX compatible versions of Windows - Windows 95, Windows 95 OSR2, Windows 98, Windows NT 4, and Windows 2000. It runs on all Intel 486 compatible 32-bit processors (486, Pentium Classic, Pentium Pro, Pentium MMX, Pentium II, Pentium III, AMD K6, AMD K7 Athlon).
Gemulator is Pentium optimized and mostly written in Intel assembly language to provide up to 5 times the speed of other Atari ST and Macintosh Plus emulators, and runs up to 50 times faster than real Atari ST and Macintosh Plus computers.Gemulator 2000 supports disk images, both for floppy disks and hard disks. Use.ATR,.XFD,.ST,.MSA,.DSK,.IMG,.VHD and other disk image formats directly with Gemulator! Gemulator 2000 also supports direct connection of Macintosh and Atari SCSI devices such as ZIP disks, Jaz disks, and CD-ROMs via the PC's SCSI bus.DirectXDirectX is a set of 32-bit graphics extensions for Windows that allows for on-the-fly graphics mode switching and allows Gemulator to run in full screen mode. If you are using Windows 98, Windows NT, and Windows 2000, you already have DirectX installed. Only if you are still using Windows 95, do you need to install DirectX. To do that, download it directly from Microsoft’s ftp and web site:.To figure out exactly what version of Windows you are running, select the Help menu in Gemulator and click on About. While using Gemulator you switch to full screen DirectX mode by pressing Alt+Enter or selecting the Full Screen option.Virtual MemoryGemulator 2000 requires about 2 megabytes of Windows memory to run in, plus any memory allocated for emulation. Make sure that you have enough swap file space on the hard disk to allow Windows to create as much virtual memory as necessary.
For example, when emulating a 4 megabyte Macintosh Plus, you will need about 6 megabytes of swap file space. The faster your PC's processor, the faster Gemulator runs. Which processor you should use depends on how fast you need for your Atari software to run.For 1040ST and Mega ST speed of operation, we recommend using a 486/33 or 486/50 processor. For Falcon or TT speed of operation, you will need to use a 75 Mhz or 90 Mhz Pentium as a minimum. Faster Pentiums scream. These recent screen shots taken with Gemulator 96 (ok, we haven't updated this for Gemulator 2000, just know that the numbers will be faster!) show Gemulator running at blistering fast speeds on a 200 MHz PC. The screen shot on the left is using regular TOS 2.06 ROMs.
The screen on the right shows the same benchmarks when using the MagiC operating system. If you have a newer PC running at 500 MHz or 800 MHz, your speed will be proportionally faster!15 times faster than an original Atari 1040ST!Gemulator runs almost 100% of ST and STE software at full Atari ST speed or faster. Only copy-protected and timing dependent Atari programs are not supported - programs that typically also do not run on Mega STE, Falcon, or TT computers either, or programs that make use of MIDI or joystick ports. Most MIDI programs in particular are heavily copy protected, which has made it difficult to add this feature.Popular Atari programs that have been tested and run on Gemulator include:Calamus / Calamus SLPagestream 2.1GFA BasicTempus / Tempus IIWord Writer / First Word PlusAtari WorksMulti WriterFlash! / Flash IIMegamax C / Laser CNeodesk 4Quick ST / Warp 9 / NVDIMagiC operating systemData Manager STPhasarSpeedo GDOSand many more. Please note. This is NOT a complete compatibility list by any means.
Nor do we even maintain such a list since we cannot possibly purchase and test each and every Atari ST program ever written. Our testing, and user feedback, of hundreds of different Atari ST and STE programs has confirmed that most compatibility problems are due to copy protected or timing dependent software.Gemulator is ideal for running Calamus SL and Pagestream, because it offers the ability to load your existing desktop publishing documents on Windows 95, to use 1600x1200 graphics, and to use up to 14 megabytes of Atari ST memory doing it. Such a system using real Atari TT computers would cost about $3000. A Pentium based Windows 95 system capable of running Gemulator with these capabilities costs half as much. The Gemulator 2000 can be downloaded from our download page and comes in two ZIP files called GEM2000.ZIP and GEM2000X.ZIP. All users need to download and install GEM2000.ZIP or run our new unified setup program.
Existing Gemulator users need not download GEM2000X.ZIP, which contains support files which you already have with your older Gemulator releases.
Atari - ST Emulators
Name | Description |
ARAnyM | To quote the homepage: ARAnyM is a software virtual machine (similar to VirtualBox or Bochs) designed and developed for running 32-bit Atari ST/TT/Falcon operating systems (TOS, FreeMiNT, MagiC and Linux-m68k) and TOS/GEM applications on any kind of hardware - be it an IBM clone (read it as 'PC' :-), an Apple, an Unix server, a graphics workstation or even a portable computer. |
Echo | Currently it runs Oids, and a few other games. It was originally named Oidemu and there are still many things not emulated yet. |
FAST | FAST just isn't a catchy name...this ST/STf/Mega ST/STe/Mega STe and Amiga 500/500+/600/1000/2000/3000 emulator was written in pure 486 protected-mode assembly. FAST also reached ST emulation firsts: Emulation of the HD6301V1P at hardware level and redirection of the floppy disk controller to the PC hardware floppy disk controller. Basically, it does everything, it does it well, it does it fast, and it does it accurately. Definitely worth the download. |
Gemulator 2000 | Gemulator was the first Atari ST emulator. Although it used to be commercially sold, the new versions of Gemulator are all being released as freeware. Gemulator 2000 (the latest incantation of Gemulator) is one of the most complete Atari ST emulators there is. Supporting the Atari 400/800, the 800XL, the 130XE, Atari ST, Mega ST, STE and even the Macintosh Classic with full sound, you won't need to look around for a more complete emulator. |
Gemulator Classic | A Freeware release of the popular Gemulator, this is a very confusing emulator to use. The documentation that is included isn't very helpful, and no tech support is given. This emulator really isn't worth the download time. It requires an image of the TOS OS, which you can download from Zophar's Domain. |
Hatari | Hatari is an Atari ST and STE emulator for GNU/Linux, BSD, BeOS, Mac OS X and other systems that are supported by the SDL library. The Atari ST was a 16/32 bit computer system which was first released by Atari in 1985. Using the Motorola 68000 CPU, it was a very popular computer having quite a lot of CPU power at that time. Unlike many other Atari ST emulators which try to give you a good environment for running GEM applications, Hatari tries to emulate the hardware of a ST as close as possible so that it is able to run most of the old ST games and demos. Hatari is open source software and is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). |
PaCifiST | PaCifiST is one of the best Atari ST emulators available. It's quite fast, as the CPU routines are done in assembly. It emulates the Atari ST's sound chip, keyboard, disk drives, the 68000 cpu, and all the rest. It also has an option to enable music through MIDI. In order to use this emulator, you need a copy of one of the versions of the Atari ST OS, TOS. You can download version 2.06 of the OS from Zophar's Domain.Version 0.49b requires 0.48 to allready be installed. It is an update patch. |
SainT | Nice Atari ST emu for Windows...it has STFM/sync scrolling support, STE DAC support, raster/split raster effects, low/medium resolution, all YM2149 sound effects, WD1772 floppy/sound (the first to have sound support), ST and MSA disk image formats and it supports just about every version of Windows. Definitely worth a download. |
Steem Engine | Steem Engine is another fine AtariST emulator. Download it and try it...now.These are the TOS files needed to run Steem Engine/XSteem. Note that one is for the United States, and the other is for the United Kingdom. They contain versions 1.02 and 2.06 for compatibility. |
Steem SSE | Steem is an emulator for the Atari STE computer created many years ago by Anthony and Russell Hayward. Steem SSE is a new version of Steem based on this release. 'SSE' stands for 'Steven Seagal Edition'. Steven Seagal is a well known Aikido grandmaster, action movie star, musician and playboy. |
STew | STew is an Atari ST emulator for your PC based on the freely available WinSTon source code released by Paul Bates. |
STonX | STonX is another great Atari ST emulator. It has sound emulation, and since it's written in C, it has been ported to many different OS's. It requires a copy of the Atari ST OS,TOS, which you can download from the link above in the PaCifiST Download section of the table. Run stonx2.exe for the version of TOS that is on Zophar's Domain. |
TOSBOX | This emulator's CPU core was coded in assembly, and is faster than an actual ST on a P75. It has limited sound emulation, however, and is missing other key features that emulators like STonX and PaCifiST have. It also requires an image of the TOS OS. Emulator development has been discontinued. |
WinSTon | This Atari ST emulator is pretty good, as it runs most Atari ST images, and does have sound support. However, it is a little slower than the other Atari ST emulators available. Also, it will only run with the TOS 1.00 OS image, which is available from Zophar's Domain. It must be named tos100.img. If you like Windows emulators, you might want to give this one a try. Project is no longer under active development. |
